      LEED for New Construction

Course includes:
   - Study questions and tips for LEED AP exam (Full-day attendees, see note below)
   - One 90 minute study session for those proceeding with the LEED AP exam
     (to be scheduled by group)


Achievement of the designation of LEED Accredited Professional is a rigorous process. This course will introduce key concepts and information. However, an additional 16-20 hours of study are recommended prior to taking the exam. More information about the exam and associated fees can be found at

Today's environmentally conscious client prefers structures that are: energy and water efficient, durable and disaster resistant, healthier and environmentally friendly. Green from the Ground Up instructs builders, contractors, architects and city officials in the fundamentals of green building. 

 

David Johnston presents a full day seminar that covers Indoor Air Quality, Resource Conservation and Energy Efficiency from a builder’s perspective.  Using his 30 years of experience in construction, solar energy and green design, David will give you the tools to build more efficient homes that are healthy for the client and will save you and the client money.  David is the founder of "What's Working" Green building experts located in Boulder, CO. 

 

Objective: To educate attendees on the latest in “green” practices, technologies and techniques of residential building.

 

Pedagogy:  Through his power point presentation, David Johnston will illustrate, explain and detail the different “green” practices, technologies and techniques with diagrams, images and bulleted information, enhanced by his own experience and expertise in the field.

Course Exam: A follow-up exam of 50 questions will be offered in Grinnell on May 15. Additional test locations will be arranged at local community colleges to accomodate students from other cities. Students must achieve 75% correct answers to receive a Certificate of Achievement (issued by ICOSC). Those who do not pass will have 60 days (till 7/15/08) to retake the exam at their local community college for an additional fee of $25.

Pending sponsorship and grants
Not to exceed $200 for the course and $40 for the exam.
